Tomar – Alvaiázere

You can leave Tomar by crossing the River Nabão via the Ponte Velha de Tomar (Old Bridge), which separated the mediaeval walled city from the town of Santa Maria do Olival.

Then head to the Peniche Bridge, which takes you over the Tripeiro Stream. With its two very pronounced Gothic arches, the bridge presents a beautiful configuration typical of the late Middle Ages.

The Camino continues through forested areas until you reach the town of Casais.

In Ponte de Ceras, taking the route through Areias, you will visit the Pego Templar Dam and the town of Areias, where the parish church, designed by João de Castilho, is dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Graça (Our Lady of Grace). You rejoin the Camino a little farther north.

At the Cortiça farm and tower, follow the cobbled path to Outeirinho and Feteiras. This thoroughly rural setting is one of the most beautiful stretches of the Central Portuguese Way. When you reach Alvaiázere, passing by Chafariz da Carranca in the vicinity of the main church, the stage ends.
