Lamego - Bertelo

Longer and more demanding, this stage passes through the municipalities of Lamego, Peso da Régua and Santa Marta de Penaguião, creating postcards of rare beauty. It's not about the destination, but about the journey and the score of terraces that mark the landscape as is unrivalled, taking the road from Resende to the Sôuto Covo viewpoint. After passing Sande, cross the Varosa Hydroelectric Power Station and walk along the bank of the Rio Varosa. As you approach the Rio Douro, you can see Régua on the other bank, where its old metal bridge is a sight to behold. It's worth visiting the Douro Museum before continuing to Santa Marta de Penaguião.
