Inside Albergaria-a-Velha Town Hall, you can see a carved stone alluding to the Albergaria de D. Teresa, which played an important in assisting pilgrims who dared to defy the dangers inherent to mediaeval pilgrimages.
Other highlights of the town include the imposing Casa do Torreão, also known as Palacete da Boa Vista (currently the Municipal Library) and the Church of Santa Cruz, Parish of Albergaria-a-Velha, as well as some emblazoned houses along the urban route.
Albergaria is also known for its watercourses and mills, used to produce flour. This ancestral tradition gave rise to the annual Portuguese Bread Festival in early June, bringing lively entertainment to the area.
The Camino continues towards the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora do Socorro (Our Lady of Succour), passing through forest areas towards Albergaria-a-Nova and Branca until reaching the limit of the Municipality and the Central Region of Portugal. Once you enter the Municipality of Oliveira de Azeméis, you are already in the Porto area and North of Portugal, through which the Central Camino continues towards the tomb of the Apostle.
Have a wonderful time on the Way!
