Alvaiázere – Alvorge

This stage, crossing rural landscapes dotted with stone walls and olive trees, is an invitation to meditation and communion with nature.

After leaving Alvaiázere, continue through Vendas, Venda do Negro and Casal Soeiro until you reach Ansião.

The Ponte da Cal Bridge, over the River Nabão, features a bathing tank with benches called “holy baths” to which popular devotion attributes healing powers based on the legend that Queen Elizabeth of Portugal (D. Isabel de Aragão) bathed there when she visited the region.

After passing the Ponte da Cal, you can opt to take the variant of the Camino that passes through Santiago da Guarda. In this location, the parish church, with contemporary architecture, is dedicated to the Apostle St. James the Greater. The fortified Palace of Vasconcelos, built on a Roman villa, with mosaics, features a heraldic scallop shell inside.
