Starting from Coimbra, the Northern Way joins the Carmelite Route, a thematic itinerary inspired by the life and works of Sister Lúcia, one of the three children known for their prophetic sightings at Fátima. In 1947 she joined the Carmelo de Santa Teresa (monastery) in Coimbra and lived there until her death in 2005.

The stage begins near the Church of Santa Cruz and several metres ahead at the Praça da Portagem you join the Carmelite Route. This is part of the Lower Mondego area, near the coast, travelling inland. It passes through parishes of the municipalities of Coimbra and Condeixa-a-Nova, a region with a long history of settlements, where the landscape, both natural and man-made, is marked by the abundance of water that irrigates the fertile fields and green urban gardens.

Throughout the day, you can enjoy, reflect upon and obtain knowledge from unique monuments, given that the trail crosses urban centres, historical monuments of great architectural and artistic value (monasteries, churches, chapels and palaces), along with museums and art centres.

It ends at Condeixa-a-Nova, near the Roman Portugal Museum in Sicó.
